18-21mpg for hard driving (<300 miles before Low Fuel light)
21-26mpg for city/highway, medium driving (300-320 miles before Low Fuel light)
27-33mpg for highway cruising. (360+ miles before Low Fuel light)
The 93+ PGT's mileage is very sensitive to driving style and air temperature.
(This is not yet comprehensive... 1Jun98)
1993
Base - 115HP. License plate between tail lights. No lower body cladding. Base front fascia. No GT logos behind front fender or next to PROBE metal badging on rear under left tail light. Hub caps.
GT - License plate also between tail lights. Lower body molding, GT front fascia. GT logos behind front fender and next to PROBE metal badging on rear under left tail light. no factory spoilers. some had no side molding. 16" alloy 5 spoke wheels. The 1993 GT has 164HP @ 6000rpm, 156 ft/lbs torque @ 4000rpm.
1994
Base - 118HP. Looks the same as 1993.
SE - Engine same as Base Probe. Changes from the Base car as follows: The front fascia is taken from a Probe GT, but without the fog lamps. Behind the front fenders and on rear end are SE logo stickers 15" alloy 3 spoke wheels.
GT - Addition of passenger side air bag. Curving stripe from door to door across dash is changed as the dash is modified for the new air bag. Vestigial stripe remains on door. Lowest part of rear bumper molding a little different. The 1994 GT (and all subsequent Probe GTs) has 164HP @ 5600rpm, 160 ft/lbs torque @ 4800rpm.
1995
Base - Several stylistic changes from 1994 as follows: Tail lights are restyled, but plate still between the tail lights. Interior doors panels restyled. The interior door handles are now just handles instead of being convenient places to keep some change like in the 93 and 94.
SE - No changes from 1994 except as listed above in the 1995 Base.
GT - Same interior changes as Base '95 and SE. Vestigial stripe remaining from pre-dual air bag 1993 model now disappears completely. License plate has been moved from between restyled tail lights down to lower bumper area. A large plastic GT logo now resides between tail lights. The rear valance was changed in 95, omitting the full-width "vent" under the bumper. The replacement vent is shorter, and the valance sweeps up on either side. Taillights trimmed in red. The small GT sticker next to the metal PROBE badge under the left tail light has been replaced by a metal 24V badge. The 16" 5 spoke alloys have been restyled from straight spokes to "sweeping" spokes.
Check out the window sticker from a 95 PGT Here.
1996
Base - Plastic molding around tail lights may have been changed from red to black. Base changes hub caps to the ugly caps used on the base MX-6 and 626. The base has the same Front Bumper cover as the SE and GT
SE - No apparent changes from 1995. Plastic molding around tail lights may have been changed from red to black.
GT - No visual changes from 1995 except for plastic molding around tail lights that may been changed from red to black. GT suspension has been softened up slightly to improve ride without significant changes in handling. The word "Probe" removed from B pillar and floor mats. Power antenna and heated mirrors disappear for good. No rear wiper option.
1997
Base - No apparent changes from 1996.
SE - No apparent changes from 1996.
GT - No visual changes from 1996, except the tail lights are definitely black bordered by now. The GT logos behind the front fenders have been slightly restyled to more resemble script rather than the mechanical look of all the years previous. Rear wiper option back.
GTS - No mechanical differences from 1997 GT. GTS has GTS logos behind the front fenders, similar in appearance to the 1997 GT. GTS also has two racing stripes that run parallel from the front of the hood to the rear bumper. The plastic GT logo between the tail lights has been replaced by what looks like a small horse.

Currently the Official Ford Service Manual for the 1993-1997 Ford Probe is $90 (US). The product number is FCS-12181-xx, where xx is the year of your Probe. There is also an Electrical Troubleshooting Manual for $32 (US). The product number is FPS-12184-xx. For the 1993-1994 Models there is also a Wiring Diagram available for $12 (US). The product number is FPS-12136-xxZ.
You can also order the factory manual for $90 + shipping from Helm Publishing, Highland Park, MI. Call 800-555-1212 for their 800 number. (800-782-4356 ????)
The ford paint codes are on the tag on the door sill. It's not the number in the paint column. Just above the word Paint you see either 2 letters or a letter and a number That's the code. 16Apr98
Sorry, but most spoilers are for show. Even aerodynamically tested spoilers (like the whale tails on Porsche 911's) don't do anything below 80mph. But they do add weight and obscure your view to the rear!

Yes, although mounting the tweeters on the door in my car, a 94 GT, was a little tricky as the left and right doors are quite different shapes. About $350 installed.
Yes, the CD player does not have RCA connectors, so you will need to wire an RCA adapter to it. I'm not sure yet if the output of the CD player is line level or speaker level.
ABS equipped cars (93+) do a self test after you have started the car and about 1 second after you starting rolling. It lasts for about one second. This is normal.
The valve cover gaskets often leak badly as soon as 30K miles. The gasket needs to be replaced. About $230 for the rear and $160 for the front at a dealer. Front is easy, rear requires more dismantling to replace.
Most, but not all 93+ PGT's have a violent reaction to tip-in acceleration when cold. The current theory is that the VAF oscillates, causing a WOT-die-WOT-die bucking. There is nothing subtle about this.
Modifying the intake may exacerbate this problem.
Turn on the rear defroster with dash switch and after about 5 minutes touch the center of each mirror glass. They will be noticeably warm to the touch if the car has the heated mirrors.
The Variable Resonance Induction System on the 2.5V6. Uses resonant frequencies of different length intake runners to optimize air intake and create the impressively flat torque curve.
Engine Speed 0-3250 3250-4250 4250-6250 6250-7500rpm
Shutter #1 ...Closed ....Open .......Open ......Closed
Shutter #2 ...Closed ....Closed .....Open ......Closed
Shutter #1 is the "far" end from the intake, #2 is the double-valve.

Mazda Manual
Volume 1 section A, "Scheduled Maintenance" outlines these details:
Non-California engines: Replace at 60,000 miles (96,000 KM)
California engines: Inspect at 96,000 (60,000 miles) and again at 144,000 KM (90,000), Replace every 168,000 KM (105,000 miles)
But what is of interest is the footnote that appears under the maintenance table for Canada with regards to the timing belt on Canadian engines: "Replacement of the timing belt is required every 96,000 KM (60,000 miles). Failure to replace this belt may result in damage to the engine."
A PGT on Moroso's scale gave 2890 lbs. sans driver. 3/8 tank of gas, subwoofer enclosure, and chrome PGT-S rims that weigh 44lbs. each (with the tire)!
The 2nd Gen PGT is reportedly very sensitive to not having the brake fluid completely full in the reservoir. It could also indicate a brake line leak or bad master cylinder so do not ignore if it persists.
Use this procedure to get the codes out:
1) Turn off the ignition.
2) Locate the "Diagnosis" plug under the hood. It's just behind the driver's side headlamp, beside the battery (fender-side). Open it.
3) On the inside of this connector cover is a legend. Locate the TEN (Test ENgine) pin and the GND (GrouND) pin. Use a paperclip and jumper the two pins.
4) Go turn on the ignition but don't start it.
5) After about 4 seconds or so, the check engine lamp will flash the codes, if any.
6) Codes may be one or two digits. 1's digits are 0.4-second flashes. 10's digits are 1.2-second flashes. There is a gap of 1.6-seconds between 1s and 10s digits. There are 4-seconds between successive codes.
7) Codes are flashed out in numerical order, not the order they were stored.
8) After the last code, 4-seconds later the cycle repeats over and over.
9) Turn off the ignition, remove the paperclip and close the diagnosis plug.
