Made by Daikin Mfg and the nominal spring load is 1168lbs (1035lbs for SE).
Rev Limiter: Rev limiter is 7500rpm on 2.5V6, 7800rpm on (euro) 2.0V6 (1.8V6s prob the same). The tachometer will generally read high. One car I've seen read 7800-7900 RPM before the rev limiter kicked in.
Internals Weights: The stock piston, rod, bearings, rings, piston pin weigh in at a whopping 2 pounds, 2.9 ounces.
Bolt pattern and Offset: 5:4.5" or 5:114.3mm Take your pick...same deal either way. Almost ALL aftermarket wheel manufacturers out there will have an application for our bolt pattern.
The factory pgt wheel offset is +40mm. Aftermarket wheels with anywhere from a +30 to +45mm offset should be ok...as long as they're not some crazy wide rims.
Stock '95 PGT wheels: the casting on the back of one of the spokes states: 16 X 7J X 40.0
Weight: Stock tire/wheel weight 40 lbs, 18" Konigs and Nitto NT555 45lbs
Car magazines tests put the 0-60 between 7.0 and 7.5 seconds.
See the dyno charts HERE.
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Mustang - can a PGT beat a Mustang in the 1/4 mile?
Performance Outline
The 93-97 Ford Probe GT is a two door sports coupe featuring a fabulous 2.5V6 and great looks. Wide rims and tires and a firm ride contribute favorably to excellent handling at autocross and road race speeds. It sits squarely between truly fast sports cars (<6 seconds to 60) and typical peppy street cars (9+ seconds to 60). Numbers do not tell the whole story: the power spins on in a spiral of musical and silky refinement. The chassis balances well at speed and reaches its limit gracefully.
An ex-professional race car driver in the club says the PGT handles better (at Sear's Point Raceway) than their fully ITA prepared RX-3 race car.
Lack of a limited slip differential and the raw power of a Eclipse GS-T or GSX, Mustang GT, or Camaro Z28 puts the PGT at a disadvantage for the stop-light derby. Numerous drag strip racers show that the 0-60 feet time for a PGT is quite good- under 2 seconds.
A very flat torque curve makes the PGT easier to drive and faster feeling than the high revving Acura Integra GSR (VTEC).
There is a selection of aftermarket parts available, but the choices are far fewer than for the more numerous Honda cars. Read more about parts on the Parts Page and the Performance Page.
The G-tech Pro (http://www.gtechpro.com/) is an integrating accelerometer. Note that the G-Tech Pro must be adjusted properly and used on level ground for accurate results. The user results posted below may or may not have been performed with complete accuracy.
7.0 seconds. Street Start, lightweight flywheel.
6.7, 6.6 seconds. lightweight flywheel, rev and slip.
7.12 seconds. custom intake and GReddy.
6.08 seconds. custom intake and GReddy and 65HP NOS.
7.23-7.38 seconds. Centerforce DF clutch, no air or airbags. 626 V6.
6.91 seconds. GReddy exhaust, Hotshots 3rd generation headers, Superchip, K&N, Centerforce clutch, and Underdrive pulleys
6.81-6.83 seconds. Advanced timing, K&N Conical, GReddy
6.4 seconds. New tires and underdrive pulley, GReddy Exhaust, Hotshot Cold air Pipe, with a K&N RE-0910, Hotshot Gen. III headers (ceramic), Advance Clutch Technology pressure plate and clutch, NGK wires and plugs, Synthetic engine oil and synthetic MTF (Mobil 1)
50-70 mph: Car&Driver rated the 2nd gen's 30-50mph and 50-70mph top gear acceleration at 8.3 and 8.0 seconds respectively. Note that this same Probe did 0-60mph in 7.0s, so it was an unusually fast Probe. Personally, on a good day with a cool engine I remember doing 50-70 in about 8.5s. On a bad day, 9-10s. Apr99
